   13/8/07 - Sydney

It’s hard to find words to encapsulate the widespread influence an act like The Cure has had, and continues to have. They’ve been somewhat of an anomaly in the music world, transcending genre and trend, to stand simply as one of the most important pop acts of the last 20 years.

It came as no surprise then when we released details about a limited number of wristbands available via Red Eye Records that a rush of fans snapped them up in a mere 15 minutes. It was inevitable there were going to be some fans who missed out but those who did receive a wristband were set for one of the most unique, intimate and awe inspiring performances MySpace Secret Shows have ever had the privilege to be part of.

Taking place at the Sydney Entertainment Centre, prior to their second sold out show, Robert Smith first explained in humble tones to the intimate gathering that they would be playing a completely unique set – including some songs they’d not performed for almost 20 years!

Starting with the soaring melodies of Plainsong, accompanied by a stream of flickering lights of pink, purple, green and blue engulfing both band and audience, The Cure invoked an awesome combination of both sight and sound. They followed with rare performances of songs including A Letter To Elise, How Beautiful You Are, Maybe Someday, Signal To Noise and Disintegration – it was truly spine tingling stuff, topped off by a fan requested version of Just Like Heaven, arguably on of the finest, purest pop songs ever conceived.

Thank you to everyone who came (some from very far away!), made a mad dash in the city to get a wristband, and generally made the effort to be a part of this amazing Secret Show. Special thanks to Sarah Chin, Nadya Balzarolo, Matt Myerscough and all the staff at Red Eye Records.
