8/23/06 - Las Vegas, NV
When you think of legendary moments in live music history, you can’t help but think of Las Vegas. Sammy Davis, Jr. Elvis. Wayne Newton.

Now Vegas has another notch to add to it’s notorious belt. Secret Shows brought hometown heroes the Killers out of hibernation for their first show in years at the Celebrity. Not only had they not played live in months, but the boys had been hard at work recording their second album, Sam’s Town. In their absence, anticipation mounted, and speculation ran wild on the internet. Fans were desperate to know: what would the new tracks sound like?

On August 23rd, 2006, the Killers answered that question with a blistering Secret Show that rivaled the Nevada temperatures outside. The band wasted no time in getting to the point, and launched with no less than three compositions from the new album, including the title track, “Sam’s Town.” As 450 fans jumped up and down in unison, the boys tore through their set with the searing intensity of desert warriors defending their home turf.

Soaring synths, gnashing guitars, booming base, devastating drums, and Brandon Flower’s vocals fused together into a mind-bending (and booty shaking) wall of sound, betraying no hint that their live show had in any way suffered during their sabbatical. Happy to have their band back, the Vegas crowd responded with equal energy and enthusiasm, reassuring the Killers that no matter how long they stay away, they always have a place at home.

Thanks to everyone involved – the Celebrity Club, William Morris, Island, of course the Killers themselves, and thanks especially to the fans who waited outside in the Vegas heat.
