This was the day that MySpace Secret Shows would rise up and show its face in Australia. Having quite a reputation to live up to from the US version, the bar had been set very high. Since the US had already made their mark with Franz Ferdinand, Gnarls Barkley, NOFX, James Blunt, Coheed & Cambria, Ice Cube, Slayer and many, many more, Australia had no choice but to bring out the big guns…..JET!
And so it was: the teasers were posted, the band announced ahead of time (a freebie this time, next time you will just have to wait and see), and a city picked out. All the fans needed was a venue. All the tuned-in Aussies signed up to the Secret Shows profile and waited, and the day before the show, the bomb was dropped. The Prince Of Whales. The only thing left was to wait in the queue and hope they were early enough to be one of the first 400 people to make it in, and be part of a very special evening, and ALL FREE.
JET hadn’t played in their hometown in over 2 years, so that night they decided to break the seal, not only the town itself, but also on a few new tunes of their upcoming CD “Shine On”. The band killed it, ripping through tune after tune, bringing out the old hits, and mixing in a few future bangers too. JET was tearing up the bar just as you would expect them to, walking on bar tops and all. It was a night of good old fashioned rock ’n’ roll -- JET style.
