Through rain, sleet or snow, there’s nothing like MySpacers making the trek to a Secret Show. What manner of fans would cross both land and sea, risking chapped lips, frostbite and who knows what kind of Dis-Eases just to see some band? What band could possibly inspire its fans in their Heart of Hearts to endure such a treacherous winter, all in the name of getting Karazzee? Of course, that band was !!! (chk chk chk), and those fans were the 200+ who hiked to Hoboken, NJ last Saturday to see the band play a free Secret Show exclusively for MySpace members!
Maxwell’s opened its doors early for the dedicated MySpace crowd, afraid that if the fans stayed outdoors any longer, they’d Intensify themselves right into punky little popscicles. Packed in tight with just enough room for dancing, it didn’t take MySpacers long to warm up after !!! took to the stage and performed new tracks from their forthcoming album, Myth Takes. Fans were obviously excited about the record, as singer Nic Offer quickly discovered when he heard the house singing the words to a song that hasn’t actually been released yet! A bittersweet surprise, to be sure.
“Hey!” Nic cried, playfully. “You can’t know the words until after March 6th!”
Ah, the power of the MySpace. You get to see free shows no one else knows about and listen to music before it even exists. Maxwell’s intimate backroom stage was impossibly small for a band of eight grown men with energy levels equivalent to those of 4th grade dodgeball champions, but that didn’t stop !!! from dancing around and smashing into each other like crazed monkeys in a zoo. Mid-set, Nic broke the barrier and Stormed the Legion of fans before embracing them vigorously in his arms.
With their pulsing percussion, groovy guitars and splendid synths, this beat-driven band is sure to be one of the biggest draws on this summer’s festival circuit. Don’t forget to pick up !!!’s new album, Myth Takes when it’s released March 6th on Warp Records. MySpace wishes to thank all the guys in !!! for playing such a great gig; to everyone at Maxwell’s for hosting the event and being so hospitable to our frozen MySpacers; to everyone at Warp Records; and of course to Chili’s for making all Secret Shows free!
