“This is my 11th Anberlin show!” declared one MySpacer, but that didn’t stop her or the rest of Anberlin’s loyal fans from lining up as early as 10am to see the band in a free and exclusive Secret Show in Orlando, Florida -- the band’s very own hometown. As Anberlin vocalist Stephen Christian later said, it was deeply meaningful to play for the MySpace crowd at Orlando’s intimate venue The Social, because it was going to shows right there that made him realize he wanted to create music.
As rock n’ roll is so untamed a beast, situations can and will happen that are out of anyone’s control. Supporting act Bayside were forced to pull out of the show when just the night before, singer Nathan Bond lost his voice. But in similar rock n’ roll fashion, fellow hometown heroes Band Marino – who were just about to shut the van door and drive to Pennsylvania to begin their own tour – saved the day by filling in just in the knick of time! Longtime friends of Anberlin, Band Marino jumped at the chance to share the stage in their hometown of Orlando. As the sun was setting in the Florida sky, Anberlin took the stage of the tiny Social to give their MySpace fans a show they’d never forget. Almost too packed in to move, the 400+ crowd still managed to jump, dance and scream their hearts out to every song Anberlin played. Even though it’d been released only that day, the crowd had been listening to Anberlin’s new album “Cities” all weekend on the band’s MySpace page. Besides new tracks like “Adelaide” and “Hello Alone,” Anberlin treated their fans to old favorites from their first two records. MySpacers stuck around after the performance to have their pictures taken with the band as well as their free Secret Shows posters autographed, which truly made for an incredible way for Anberlin to kick off their tour and new album release.
