The mission of Secret Shows is to take the World’s best bands to small towns and give their diehard MySpace fans a chance to see them perform in intimate settings they’re unlikely to play ever again – all for free. That mission was accomplished in spectacular fashion last week in the city of Lancaster, PA, thanks to 800 dedicated MySpacers and their favorite band Relient K!
Despite temperatures in the mid 20s, faithful fans lined up seven hours early outside the doors of Lancaster’s famed Chameleon Club, each one ready to rock. Kicking off the show was MySpace Records’ own Sherwood, who played tracks from their new album, “A Different Light.” The record comes out this week, but fans still knew the words to songs like “Give Up,” “Home,” and all the other tracks Sherwood posted on their MySpace profile. The band will support Relient K for the full length of the tour, so make sure to get to the gigs early check Sherwood out.
Fans chanted the band’s name as Relient K took to the stage, with their cheers actually drowning out the music for the first minute of the performance! Relient K treated the MySpace audience to many of the fan-favorite tracks from their first three full-lengths before blasting out fresh songs from their new record, “Five Score and Seven Years ago.” Thanks to the album listening party on the band’s MySpace profile, fans were able to learn and sing along with every new lyric. Later, Relient K performed for fans an acoustic “Campfire Session” that included a cover of Weezer’s classic “Surf Wax America.” The band then spent time after the gig hanging out with fans, signing autographs and taking pictures with anyone willing to brave the could weather outside by the tour bus, giving everyone as true and unforgettable a MySpace Secret Shows experience that won’t be forgotten.
