The sun warmed some 500 MySpacers as they stood outside in anticipation of the performance they had been waiting years for. Hometown heroes Good Charlotte were about to bring some of their own March Madness to our nation's capital.
To ensure their front row experience, fans lined up outside the Black Cat as early as 9 AM. And many drove from as far as Boston just to be in that exclusive crowd.
After the second song, lead singer Joel Madden said he couldn't think of a more perfect place or crowd to be the first to hear live music from their new album, Good Morning Revival. "This is a really good representation of my friends on MySpace. I feel like we are on my top 8 right now!" The band then powered into their classic fan favorite, Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous, and the mad MySpacers made the floor shake like an epileptic drawbridge.
After an awe striking set, both the band and their fans left the Black Cat with similar expressions of gratification and accomplishment. The next night DC's Georgetown Hoyas fell in the Final Four to the mightier Ohio State Buckeyes. Yet, Good Charlotte and their Top 500 fans were still riding high on a MySpace-fueled victory.
Many thanks go to the Black Cat for opening their doors on a Friday night, to Army of Me for getting the room hot and sweaty, to Good Charlotte and their die-hard fans for making the night way more than worthwhile, and of course to Chili's for making all Secret Shows free!!
