An April 1st Secret Show? With Brand New, the band fans have demanding for months and months? Come on, it’s got to be an April Fool’s prank, suspected some MySpacers. Well… it should have been, but we’re just not that mean. Indeed, Secret Shows really did present Brand New live and in person in San Francisco, CA – free and exclusively for MySpace members! And so dedicated are Brand New’s MySpace fans, some of them went to see the band the night before at another venue before heading over to San Fran’s Bottom of the Hill club to campout overnight-- just to make sure they’d be first in line for Brand New’s Secret Show!

Kicking the night off was Manchester Orchestra, a band unknown to most of the San Francisco crowd. Led by Andy Hull, the Atlanta five-piece played their own unique brand of indie rock and quickly won over MySpacers with tracks from their debut record, I'm Like a Virgin Loosing a Child, which you can hear on their MySpace profile.

Next up was singer-songwriter Kevin Devine, who provided one of the evening's most entertaining highlights when he broke into a jam of Lynard Skynard's immortal “Free Bird,” substituting his own lyrics and arrangement. Devine went on to play an eclectic set of heartfelt and personal tunes, protest songs and catchy, upbeat tracks to get the crowd ready for the main event, Brand New themselves.

Known for their extended performances, this Secret Show might have been the longest set of Brand New's career. For nearly two and a half hours, Brand New played a huge array of tracks from across all three of their albums, giving every fan who waited in that line the show of their lives. Frontman Jesse Lacey endeared himself to the MySpace audience by letting them in on inside jokes from the tour before jamming with openers Kevin Divine and Manchester Orchestra's Andy Hull. Lacey also gave sincere introductions to some of the group's most personal songs, especially "Limousine," which was far and away the night's most touching moment.

Destined to go down in the Secret Shows history books, Brand New's April 1st performance will be remembered by everyone there as one of the most epic dates this band as ever played, and as one of the best shows any group's given their fans ever.
