After receiving the clue from Chili’s, friends of MySpace Secret Shows waited in anticipation to find out which Bamboozle bands would be playing the next show and where it was going to take place. The forum on the Secret Show page was flooded with speculations before the show was announced. Not one, not two, but three bands ended up making up the first triple-headlining Secret Show ever…The Starting Line, Bayside and The Almost, in the quaint beach town of Asbury Park, NJ.
Kicking off the show were Florida natives, The Almost, led by Aaron Gillespie, drummer for screamo heroes, Underoath. Though the band has only been playing shows for a very short time in support of their debut album "Southern Weather," they took the stage like a group of seasoned veterans. In between songs like "Yule Be Sorry" and "Amazing Because It Is," Aaron expressed his great appreciation to everyone in attendance before getting everyone in the Stone Pony moving to the ultra catchy "Say This Sooner." After the set, a few lucky fans outside got a chance to meet and hang out with the band, causing one fan to say that this was the best night of her life. Next up were Long Island’s finest, Bayside. Known as one of the hardest working bands in the entire world, the band lived up to its reputation and signed on to come down and play a free show at the last minute. In February, Bayside released their new album "The Walking Wounded" which instantly became a classic album among the band’s die hard fans. The band played all the favorites off of that album including "Duality" (make sure you check out the great video that premiered on MySpace) and songs off their Victory debut, "Sirens and Condolences." The Starting Line took the stage for the final performance of the night and the fans who waited in line since noon to see their favorite Philly band were not disappointed. Although the band took a break from touring to write and record their debut album for Virgin Records, they showed the crowd that they haven’t missed a step and put on an energetic live set full of songs from their first two full-length albums as well as playing a brand new song, "Direction" off their forthcoming new album. The bands new album will be hitting stores this summer and in case you missed this show they will be coming to a town near you very soon. Thanks to all the fans who came out, to all the bands for their amazing performances, to The Stone Pony for showing the world why Asbury Park is still worth a visit and to Chili’s for making all these shows FREE! |
