You ask, and you shall receive...

To the delight of several fans of the genre, on Tues. May 29, MySpace held it’s first reggae secret show with Stephen "Ragga" Marley and special guest, Damian "Jr. Gong" Marley. Who better than the kin of legendary Bob Marley to host a show in their family’s current backyard of Miami, FL. The record-breading line started to accumulate in front of Studio A just as the final announcement was sent via bulletin at 3pm. While latecomers were disappointed at being turned away at capacity, the 800 or so that made it into the venue were on the edge of their feet, cheering to every song that DJ GQ blasted from the turntables before the performance.

Mr. Cheeks opened the "too good to be true" line-up of the night, with Stephan joining shortly after. Stephen kicked it off with "Strictly Reggae Music" and songs off his latest album, including "Mind Control" and "Hey Baby." Showing off his musical talents ranging from guitar to drumming, he brought the crowd to joyful tears as they sang along to their father's classics such as "No Woman No Cry," "Buffalo Soldier" and "Exodus." Stephan’s 4-year old son accompanied his father on stage, waving the Rastafarian flag in delight, reminiscent of a young Stephen decades ago on stage with the Melody Makers.

Damien "Jr. Gong" continued to energize the crowd as he delivered his thoughtful lyrics. With a catalogue that included anthems like "All Night" and "Welcome to Jamrock." "Jamaica, Jamaica" the crowd roared with fists in the air. The club was overwhelmed with family - Mother Booker, supported her grandchildren from the side of the stage while older brother, Ziggy and sister Cedella Marley joined the two for a historic version of "Could You Be Loved."

Stephen repeatedly thanked MySpace for bringing his "friends" together, and we thank the Marleys for giving back to their lifelong fans, one of the most memorable secret shows by far.

Special thanks to the Marleys, Mr. Cheeks, Dan, Konstanze and Amy of the Spectacle Group, Pretty, Keith, Stella and the entire band, Harris Lewis and Studio A, DJ GQ, Dennis "Semp" Paredes, Erik Pettie and Chili’s.
