 11/16/06 - Los Angeles, CA

Of all the creatures in the vastness of the universe, there are none like Tenacious D. For no matter how many crowds they devour or how many arenas they destroy, it is their destiny to one day give back to the universe – infinitely more than they have ever taken from it. And so it was, on November 16th, in the human city of Los Angeles, CA,  that for the first time ever two of MySpace’s most eminent entities, Secret Shows and Black Carpet Screenings, joined to become one. The newly formed force of nature had but one terrible purpose: to bring exclusively to MySpace members a Tenacious D Secret Show in the movie theater before the Black Carpet Screening of Tenacious D In The Pick Of Destiny, the greatest motion picture experience of all time.

More than 500 wonderboys and girls lined up in front of LA’s historical Vista Theatre, some as early as 11:00pm the night before, each one sustained only by the warmth of rock’s fiery cycle. Nightfall descended upon the city of angels, and the Devil’s protégés Jack Black and Kyle Gass materialized from the ether. They who are Tenacious D were to enchase their holy handprints into the Vista’s cement sidewalk, but being the embodiment of pure rock, the D had other ideas. Trou was dropped, squatting was executed, ass-prints were made, and Los Angeles would never be the same. Exactly how or when The D were able to remove the crude, earthly cement from their holy personages is unknown, but soon heard was the triumphant cry of “WE ARE TOTALLY ASS-CLEAN!”

The spotlights flared as Jack Black and Kyle Gass took to the stage against a standing ovation of MySpace members chanting “D! D! D!” The duo began strumming quietly the notes to what soon emerged gloriously emerged as amazing mini-cover of Queen’s immortal classic, the theme to Flash Gordon before launching immediately into a power-acoustic version of their interdimensional hit, “Wonderboy.”  They followed with the live debut of their new song, “The Government Totally Sucks,” off of the movie’s most glorious soundtrack. MySpacers swayed their lighters and cellphones above their heads to the band’s touching rendition of “F*ck Her Gently,” and the whole place erupted in a soul-groping sing-a-long to one of Tenacious D’s most important masterpieces, “Tribute.”

The greatest band on Earth, Tenacious D bid the MySpace audience farewell. Then the lights dimmed, the curtains opened, and the projection began. Dost thou wish to know the tale of Tenacious D In The Pick Of Destiny? Then get thee ass over to MySpace’s Black Carpet Screenings profile, and taste the mighty juice. And you must not forget to obtain the film’s incredible soundtrack, featuring all new music by Tenacious D.

So sayeth the Pick Of Destiny.

Secret Shows and Black Carpet Screenings wishes to bestow eternal thanks unto Tenacious D for bringing the rock, to New Line Cinema for bringing the movie, to the Vista Theatre for hosting this historic event, to Epic Records for putting out the music, and to Chili’s, for making all Secret Shows free!
