On January 19th, MySpace Secret Shows made our way to Sun Peaks, British Columbia for what will most likely stand as our highest altitude concert indefinitely. Featured on the sold out show were Classified, Shad K, and Chad Hatcher, along with performances by DJ IV, J-Bru & Mike Boyd.

DJ IV started off the evening with multi-era spanning set of hip-hop, seamlessly mixing and scratching, right into the start of Chad Hatcher’s set. The mood set by DJ IV’s performance was only heightened by Chad Hatcher’s brief, but impacting set. Performing songs off his recently released “Tunnels & Pathways” album, Chad’s singer-songwriter take on hip-hop provided the audience with a nice cross-section of style, and had the audience singing along to his latest single, “Do It All Again.” Following Chad Hatcher’s set, DJ IV took back the reigns, and had the crowd dancing right up until Shad K took the stage.

Shad took to the stage armed with his guitar, and quickly proved why he is one of the most charismatic and talented MCs in Canada. His freestyling ability had the crowd cheering him along, as he personalized his rhymes to discuss his trip to perform in Sun Peaks. By mid-set, the audience was involved in a full on dance party with Shad, and by the end, not wanting it to end, they requested an encore, to which he happily obliged. The audience, having been warmed up by Chad Hatcher, Shad and DJ IV were now anticipating the start of Classified’s set even more.

Classified, along with J-Bru, Mike Boyd and Chad Hatcher, with DJ IV manning the decks from side stage took to the stage to a thunderous applause. Proving why he is one of the most important figures in Canadian hip-hip hop (despite his musings), Classified and his Half Life Records crew had full control of the room for his hour plus set. Focusing on his three most recent albums from his extensive discography, “While You Were Sleeping, Hitch Hikin Music, and Boy-Cott in the Music Industy,” he had the capacity crowd in a call and response to each song, right up until the final song of the encore.
