January 27th saw MySpace Secret Shows back in beautiful British Columbia for a show with Silverstein in Victoria. The show, which was the furthest west we’ve traveled (a trend of firsts from our show the week before, which was our highest elevation) took place at Element, and acted as the kickoff to Silverstein’s cross-Canada headlining tour. Main support for the show came from Victoria’s own rising stars, THESET.
The line-up for the show started earlier then any of other Secret Shows to date, with a steady stream of people congregating soon after 8am, swelling in numbers as door time approached. We met many nice people in the line-up, all of whom were anticipating seeing one of their favourite touring bands in a rare Victoria performance.
Starting the show off was THESET, who were debuting many songs off of their forthcoming album, which they are in the process of recording. If the live renditions of the songs are anything like their soon to be recorded versions, then we can say it here first that music fans across the country have will have a new favourite band. Having grown past their favourite local band status with their extensive Canadian touring, THESET are a band to keep an eye on in 2008.
Following a brief intermission, Silverstein took to the stage, and immediately tore into “Still Dreaming” off of their most recent album, Arrivals and Departures. It is truly amazing to see how much Silverstein has grown as a band in the past eight years, with non-stop touring, and one solid album after another Over the course of the next seventy minutes, they would go through their entire discography, playing a mix of crowd favourites which included “My Heroine, November, Bleeds No More, and Smile In Your Sleep.” The audience sang along to each song in unison, fighting singer, Shane Told for the microphone at times, as they surged forward on the dance floor. Thank you to Silverstein for creating a truly memorable experience for MySpace Secret Shows attendees.
Thank you to everyone who attended the show, Silverstein, Pierre Tremblay & Nettwerk, Mark Bubb & Victory Records, Sarah Parker & The Zone, Omar Al-Joulani, Dustin Rabin, Atomique Productions, Element, Rob Dyer & Skate4Cancer, Andy Owens, and everyone else involved in the show.
