Mostly known for its film festival and obscenely expensive homes, Tribeca's streets had a different feel on Wednesday, March 26th. Mohawks, studded belts and attitude filled this usually quaint area of Lower Manhattan.
Blessed with crisp, sunny weather, fans of all ages and sizes lined up hours before doors opened at the legendary Knitting Factory as they all eagerly awaited the arrival of Pittsburgh punk rock icons, ANTI-FLAG. Kicking the night off were New Jersey's Static Radio, who filled in at the last minute for Outernational, who sadly had to cancel. The band's hardcore energy had fans forming pits that continually grew in size and intensity as the night progressed. The band would later blog that "The kids were some of the most fun and enegetic people we've seen in a long time." A set that saw exponentially-growing pits, non-stop crowd-surfing, and stage diving, Anti-Flag got it all started with "Spit In The Face," from their latest release, The Bright Lights of America, which hit stores just one week later, on April 1st. The band played a great mix of songs, new and old, including the classics, "One Trillion Dollars" and "Die For The Government." A night like this would not have been possible without some very special people. A specials thanks goes out to Static Radio, Anti-Flag, RCA, The Knitting Factory and the elderly Asian man that ran the convenient store where I bought ear plugs. Thanks to all of them. We'll see you at the next show! |
