Traffic permitting it would probably take you twenty minutes to drive from the Hollywood Bowl to The Echo, a tiny bar located off of Sunset Boulevard in Echo Park. But if you're talking about the difference -- and not just the distance -- between these two particular venues, well, the truth is they are worlds apart.

You see, the Hollywood Bowl is where your uncle goes to sip red wine and snack on expensive cheese, while The Echo is where local hipsters go to see the latest indie rock sensations play a highly blogged about set. Which is probably why you never see a band play both venues when they come to town.

But this past week, the legendary British rock group Spiritualized did exactly that as they went from performing at The Bowl with Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds to playing an incredibly intimate MySpace Secret Show at this beloved East Side club. With the release of Songs In A & E fresh in most fansą minds, band leader Jason "Spaceman" Pierce quickly banged out a selection of new songs, including the group's latest single "Soul On Fire."

But the sunglasses-donning frontman also dug deep into the Spiritualized catalog, revisiting songs like "Come Together" and "Cop Shoot Cop" from 1997's undisputed classic, Ladies And Gentlemen We Are Floating In Space. As the room filled up with the sound of Pierce's soulful guitar, the crowd's energy level hit a fever pitch.

After an hour and a half onstage, Spiritualized churned out a stirring version of "Lord Can You Hear Me" from 2001's Let It Come Down and the night came to a dramatic close. It was certainly a special evening and a big thanks is due to Jason and the members of Spiritualized, Andy and everyone at Tsunami, Liz at The Echo and, last but not least, the good people of Los Angeles who waited for hours to get inside.

You rule. As always, we'll see you at the next show...
